Schwarzenegger Vetoes Insurer Penalty Bill

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a bill that would have created new penalties for insurers and employers that do not pay court-awarded benefits -- and took a swipe at applicants' attorneys in his veto message. Senate Bill 1023 by Joseph Dunn, D-Garden Grove, was among 52 bills that Schwarzenegger vetoed on Thursday. The bill would have imposed penalties of $2,000 against insurers and employers who failed to pay court-awarded benefits within 10 days after an order became final.
