Following on the heals of Costco's meager net earnings due to exhorbitant workers' compensation costs, Jack in the Box Inc. (NYSE: JBX), operator and franchiser of Jack in the Box(R) and Qdoba Mexican Grill(R) restaurants, yesterday said that its earnings were significantly impacted by radically higher workers' compensation costs in California, Washington and Texas.The company announced net earnings of $19.8 million for the third quarter ended July 6, compared with $24.2 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2002, and said that the 18% difference was primarily due to its bill for work comp co...
