Va. Carriers Must Notify All Non-Renewals or Be Liable

Workers' compensation carriers doing business in Virginia are required to issue non-renewal notifications even when it's the employer who drops the carrier, a court of appeals decided Wednesday. Travelers Property Casualty Co. was ordered to pay two claims that occurred after a policy had lapsed for nonpayment of premium. However, the carrier failed to notify the employer or the Workers' Compensation Commission that the policy had lapsed.
