Since 2011, the Los Angeles County Probation Department has reduced the number of workers’ compensation claims by roughly one-third by using an investigative model developed by the county Sheriff’s Department, Southern California Public Radio reports. The probation department added staff to its unit that investigates claims. Those employees scrutinize doctors’ notes, question restrictions and limitations and conduct surveillance on claimants.
