Rules proposed by the Vermont Workers' Compensation and Safety Division would establish specific penalties for violations of state workers' compensation regulations, including a $20,000 fine or forfeiture of benefits against any claimant who makes a false statement for the purpose of obtaining benefits.
In a statement of reasons, the division said the Vermont Supreme Court has ruled that specific regulations are needed "guiding the exercise of the (labor) commissioner's discretion when levying penalties."
