An employee of a Northern California school district was arraigned on fraud charges for allegedly working as a disc jockey while receiving workers’ compensation benefits for a lower back injury.
Jonathan Jovel worked as a paraeducator in San Mateo County. In October 2021, he complained of low back pain from working all day and, possibly, from picking up a box of string cheese, Intercare Insurance Holdings Insurance Services Inc. said.
The San Mateo County Schools Insurance Group questioned the injury, and the claim was placed in delay status. It was accepted in January 2022.
