Maintenance Worker Charged With Workers' Comp Fraud

Monday, January 8, 2018 | 0

A Sanborn maintenance worker has been charged with workers' compensation fraud after he was allegedly observed installing and servicing swimming pools while collecting temporary total disability benefits, the Niagara Gazette reports

Criminal charges against Dean Anthony, 49, were announced on Thursday.

Anthony began receiving workers' compensation benefits in May for an injury sustained while moving a guardrail for the New York State Thruway Authority, the New York State Inspector General's Office says.

He collected $461.68 per week in wage-replacement benefits and reported to State Insurance Fund that he was not working, according to the Inspector General's Office.

But, investigators allege, Anthony was observed working on swimming pools from June through August.

As a result, charges of felony grand larceny, offering a false instrument, and workers' compensation fraud have been brought against him.

Anthony was arraigned in Cambria town court. His next scheduled court appearance is set for Feb. 6.
