The Vermont state Senate unanimously passed a bill making it easier for state workers to prove they contracted a rare lung disease at work.
That workplace is a state office building in Bennington where six workers were diagnosed with the rare disease sarcoidosis.
S 67, approved Wednesday on a 30-0 vote in the Senate, makes an exception to the causation rule and instead presumes the state workers in Bennington diagnosed with sarcoidosis contracted it at the workplace. Workers' compensation law requires a claimant to prove there was an occupational causation to an injury or illness.
