The owner of a cleaning company in Sacramento was charged with three felony counts of fraud for allegedly underreporting his payroll by more than $5 million, the California Department of Insurance announced.
Jorge Gerardo Maldonado, 55, allegedly caused three insurance companies to miss out on $687,560 in premiums that he would have paid had he accurately reported his payroll.
Maldonado owned Pro-Care Building Maintenance since 2014, the Insurance Department said in a statement.
In 2016, one of his workers was injured on the job and filed a workers’ compensation claim.
