Despite efforts to provide “Chevy” rather than “Cadillac” models of prosthetic limbs to injured workers, the Indiana Workers' Compensation Board saw the cost of prosthetics paid for through the Second Injury Fund jump up last year.
In 2014, the number of prosthetic recipients was 78, at a total cost of $1.30 million. In 2017, the number of recipients was down, to 74, as was the cost, at $1.15 million.
But last year, the number of prosthetic recipients jumped, to 86, and the cost to pay for the devices was $1.27 million.
