Estimated paid costs in California decreased 7.77% last year, according to a draft of the 2021 Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation report posted online for public comment.
Medical, indemnity and expense costs fell to $17.742 billion in 2020 from $19.236 billion in 2019, according to the report.
The largest decrease was in the expense category, which fell 10.46% to $6.121 billion from $6.836 billion. Medical costs fell 8.54% to $6.198 billion from $6.777 billion, while indemnity costs dropped 3.56% to $5.423 billion from $5.623 billion.
