Report: Insurance Industry Job Growth Slowed in February

Wednesday, March 29, 2017 | 0

The insurance industry gained 3,000 jobs in February, a drop from the 9,800 jobs added in January, according to preliminary figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In 2016, the insurance industry gained 3,800 jobs each month on average, Jay Rollins, owner of the insurance employment website InsuranceJobs.com, said in a blog post on Tuesday.

“December and January saw higher than average employment growth, at 8,700 and 9,800 jobs, respectively,” Rollins said. “February seems to be realigning itself with last year’s monthly average gain.”

The Insurance Carriers and Related Activities industry subsector now employs 2.6 million, with an unemployment rate of 2.8%.

Over the last 12 months, the subsector has grown by 51,700 jobs.

BLS released its Economic Situation Report on March 10.
