State Legislators Aim to Extend Benefits to National Guard on Border Duty

Texas lawmakers want to designate National Guardsmen at the Mexican border as first responders to ensure they receive certain workers' compensation benefits if injured or killed in the line of duty. Rep. Jared Patterson, R-Frisco, filed HB 90, and Sen. Joan Huffman, R-Houston, filed identical companion measure SB 155 on Monday ahead of the legislative session that starts next year.
