California lawmakers delayed the start of the 2021 legislative session by one week because of the rising number of COVID-19 infections throughout the state, the Associated Press reports.
Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon and Senate President Toni Atkins on Friday announced that the session will start Jan. 11 instead of Jan. 4.
Capitol Public Radio reported the announcement follows at least nine confirmed COVID-19 cases among Capitol workers over a five-day period.
The California Workers’ Compensation Institute on Friday reported that the number of COVID-19 claims doubled in November to 10,305 from 4,628 in October. CWCI projects 17,312 COVID-19 claims for November dates of injury, up about 11.8% compared to the 15,489 claims projected for July.
