Teacher Assault Pay Ended at Retirement, Appellate Court Rules

A school teacher's eligibility for enhanced benefits resulting from an assault while trying to break up a fight between two girls ended when she retired, the Louisiana 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled. The appellate court affirmed a decision by the district court to award the assault pay, but greatly reduced the amount because the lower court had miscalculated the amount owed to the injured teacher by failing to take into account the date of her retirement.
