Medical Board to Vote on New Prescription Drug Guidelines

Doctors would be urged to proceed with caution when prescribing opioids exceeding the daily equivalent of 80 mg of morphine under controlled substance-prescribing guidelines on which the California Medical Board will vote on Friday. The 80 mg per day morphine equivalent dosage, or MED, is described as a "yellow flag" warning in the latest draft of the board's guidelines.
