Prescription drug monitoring programs that physicians must access before dispensing medications helped reduce opioid use among injured workers, according to a recent presentation from the Workers Compensation Research Institute.
Ten years ago, about one in five injured workers were prescribed an opioid. As of 2018, that is down to about one in 10, WCRI Public Policy Analyst Bogdan Savych said during a webinar exploring a recent report on the effects of state policies on opioid use. The average opioid dosage fell 74% from 2010 through 2018, he added.
