A coalition representing gig economy workers announced a ballot measure on Tuesday that would exempt drivers for companies such as Uber, Lyft and DoorDash from a new law classifying them as employees.
Among other things, the gig companies would have to pay more than minimum wage and provide “occupational accident insurance,” which appears comparable to workers’ compensation coverage.
