Neomi Schmidt underwent left knee surgery in 1993, 12 years before she began working for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in 2005.
In 2011, Schmidt saw a doctor with complaints of pain in her left knee. She reported that her pain worsened when she knelt and, because she repetitively knelt at work, she aggravated her knee pain regularly.
