A proposal by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to streamline its Medicare physician fee schedule for evaluation and management services is being watched closely in workers’ comp, where the new rule could have a range of impacts.
The proposed rule, which CMS announced this month, would assign a single payment amount to outpatient evaluation and management services for complexity levels 2 through 5. Currently, reimbursement for those services increases for office visits that are more complex.
