Dog Attacks on Postal Workers Highest Since 1980s

Monday, April 10, 2017 | 0

Dog bites among postal workers rose to the highest level since the 1980s last year amid a boom in online retail sales that has mail carriers making more deliveries, the Associated Press reported.

There were 6,755 dog attacks on postal workers last year, up 206 from the previous year, according to U.S. Postal Service data released this week.

Los Angeles had the highest number of attacks (80), followed by Houston (62) and Cleveland (60).

Data indicates the attacks may be becoming less severe, however, as the average cost per workers' compensation claim attributed to a dog attack fell 10% last year to $33,320, according to State Farm and the Insurance Information Institute.
