DCBS Reports 42 Compensable Fatalities in 2023

The Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services reported that it received notice of 42 fatalities accepted for workers’ compensation benefits in 2023. The 42 compensable workplace fatalities represent a 40% increase compared to the 30 compensable workplace deaths in 2022. Sixteen of the accepted fatalities, about 38%, involved roadway accidents. Since 2019, carriers have accepted liability for 48 fatalities involving roadway accidents, about a quarter of the 191 compensable fatalities reported since 2019.
