Bill Would Provide Comp for 9/11 Recovery Workers

Thursday, April 21, 2022 | 0

A bill introduced in the New York State Legislature on Tuesday would provide workers’ compensation coverage for any illness or death incurred as a result of an individual’s participation in the 9/11 World Trade Center rescue, recovery and cleanup operations.

Assembly Bill 9922 would amend the rules on presumptive evidence for those who participated in the 9/11 operations. It would also provide that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention World Trade Center Health Program Certification is deemed presumptive medical evidence of a causally related diagnosis under workers' compensation law.

The bill was introduced in and referred to the Committee on Governmental Employees, where it is pending.
