Worker Who Ran Into Steel Beam Gets PTD Benefits

The Utah Court of Appeals ruled that a mechanic was entitled to permanent total disability benefits for his injuries from colliding with a steel beam. Case: Utah American Energy Inc. v. Labor Commission, No. 20190800-CA, 03/18/2021, published. Facts: Adam Pilling worked for Utah American Energy Inc. as a heavy-duty diesel mechanic. In May 2007, he was hurrying into a mine to work on some machinery and struck the top of his head on a steel beam. Even though Pilling was wearing a hard hat, the blow knocked him to the ground. He was able to finish his shift, but not without pain...
