High Rate of Fatal Brain Injuries Found Among Older Construction Workers

Employees aged 65 and older had the highest rate of fatal traumatic brain injuries among all construction workers, with 7.9 deaths per 100,000, according to a new report from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. The NIOSH study analyzed data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries. From 2003 to 2010, 2,210 construction workers died of traumatic brain injuries, a rate of 2.6 per 100,000 full-time equivalent workers.
