As brain injuries draw increased attention in workers’ comp, a growing number of construction companies are trying out helmets rather than hard hats as a way to better protect workers’ heads.
Attorney Howard Mavity, a partner with Fisher Phillips in Atlanta, said he recently met with representatives of three general contractors that have switched their workers to safety helmets instead of hard hats. Specialty contractors are also making the change in headgear in response to requirements from general contractors, he said.
