The total number of workers' compensation claims filed — and the total amount paid on them — changed little between fiscal years 2016 and 2017 in Maryland, the Workers' Compensation Commission's annual report indicates.
The state saw a big jump in the amount of death benefits paid in 2017 — $8.6 million, a 28.9% increase from last year — but the size of the jump can be partially attributed to the fact that 2016's figure was lower than average.
