Interpreters, Attorneys Voice Concerns with proposed Fee Schedule

A draft interpreter fee schedule the California Division of Workers' Compensation posted for public comment would pay too little or too much, depending on who you ask. The proposed fee schedule would increase the hourly rate for Spanish language interpreting services provided during medical exams and medical-legal evaluations to $52.50 from $45. But because the proposed rules would eliminate the two-hour minimum for services provided at medical exams, interpreters say the end result is essentially a 50% pay cut, at least for those who translate from Spanish to English.
