Louisiana ranks highest in average workers’ compensation claim costs among 18 states examined in a series of reports released by the Workers' Compensation Research Institute on Thursday.
The Pelican State also had the highest average defense attorney payment per claim, and it ranks third-highest in terms of medical cost per claim, according to the the WCRI's CompScope Benchmarks reports.
The CompScope reports, now in their 16th edition, detail the various components of total claim costs and look at such factors as timeliness of indemnity payments and attorney involvement.
