Workers’ compensation acts as one route through which opioids reach the hands of Americans, but a new survey from the National Safety Council suggests that most people don’t understand much about the drugs – including the risks of addiction, the effectiveness of the medications and the dangers of sharing them with friends or family.
The council surveyed 1,014 adults through an online poll in January and February and found that many didn’t know they had taken an opioid. Of those surveyed, 29% reported taking or being prescribed an opioid in the past three years. How...
