New Mexico lawmakers passed a bill to increase the maximum attorney fee to $30,000.
The Senate on Sunday voted 25-14 to pass House Bill 66, which has not been amended since the House of Representatives voted 36-22 to pass it in February.
The bill, by Rep. Pamelya Herndon, D-Bernalillo, would increase the cap on attorney fees to $30,000 from $22,500 this year. It would also increase the cap to $32,000 in 2027 and to $34,000 in 2029.
Additionally, the bill would increase the discovery advance to $3,500 from $3,000.
