Bill Would Permanently Exempt Manicurists From ABC Test

Licensed manicurists in California would be indefinitely exempted from the state’s so-called “ABC test” of employee status, under recently introduced legislation. Manicurists who book their own appointments and set their own hours are currently exempted from the employee status test through Jan. 1, 2025. AB 1818, by Assemblywoman Janet Nguyen, R-Huntington Beach, would repeal the statutory sunset language. Gov.
