A Louisiana doctor pleaded guilty on Friday to fraud charges related to a scheme that overcharged the federal government and private carriers for unnecessary medications provided to workers’ compensation patients.
Dr. Robert Dale Bernauer Sr., 74, pleaded guilty to one count each of conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud, health care fraud, defrauding the federal comp program and accepting kickbacks.
Court filings allege the orthopedic surgeon made more than $1 million from the scheme that ran from 2011 to 2017.
