Scammers are using Facebook Messenger and the promise of up to $1 million in workers’ compensation benefits to rip off people in North Carolina, according to a report by the CBS affiliate in Raleigh.
According to the report, scammers told people they were eligible for a large amount of money in unclaimed workers’ compensation. They are told to contact an agent to walk through the process of receiving the money.
At that point, victims are asked to provide a slew of personal information.
