A workers' compensation reform bill under consideration in Kansas would change the makeup of a committee that nominates workers' compensation judges in response to criticism that it is stacked in favor of business interests.
Under House Bill 2056, one of four workers' comp bills drafted by Rep. John Carmichael, D-Wichita, the committee would consist of three seats instead of the current seven. The state AFL-CIO would choose one member, the state Chamber of Commerce would choose another, and the two groups would collaborate to choose the third.
