After High Drama, Committee Passes Independent Contractor Registry Bill

A Pennsylvania House committee this week approved a measure, with amendments, that would clarify who can be considered an independent contractor, free from the benefits of workers’ compensation coverage — but not before drama erupted in the hearing and all Democrats walked out. That means that House Bill 1781 is marked as passing the Labor and Industry Committee with a unanimous vote, 16-0.
