Golden State's Share of Payroll Drops as Its Benefit Payments Increase

California's share of wages paid to workers covered by workers' compensation dropped in 2022 while the state's share of cash and medical benefits paid to injured workers increased, according to a bulletin the California Workers' Compensation Institute published Wednesday. California accounted for 12.1% of U.S. jobs covered by work comp in 2022, slightly more than the 11.9% of jobs covered by comp in 2021.
