Rule Would Implement Death Benefit Policy for First Responders

The Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation is proposing a regulation that will implement legislation that makes the surviving spouses of first responders eligible for death benefits for life after remarrying. State lawmakers in 2015 repealed a law that eliminated death benefits to the widows and widowers of first responders who died in the line of duty on or after the bill took effect on Sept. 15, 2015.
