The U.S. Senate on Wednesday passed the 21st Century Cures Act, legislation that allocates $4.8 billion for medical research and $1 billion in state grants to battle the opioid abuse crisis.
The Senate vote of 94-5 follows the U.S. House of Representatives’ vote of 392-26 on Nov. 30. It now heads to President Obama, who has said he will sign it as soon as it reaches his desk.
