The Utah Legislature has passed a bill limiting many opioid prescriptions to seven days.
House Bill 50 was sent to the governor's office on Friday. It limits all opioid prescriptions to seven-day supplies except those for patients with a documented complex or chronic condition, or patients who have recently had surgery.
The bill, by State Rep. Raymond Ward, R-Davis, passed 67-5 last month in the House and 28-0 this month in the Senate.
The bill applies to opioids that are classified as Schedule II or Schedule III by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
