Five years after a deep-red Republican Legislature made cuts to the already-tight workers' compensation benefits in Kansas, worker advocates are celebrating a victory in improved death benefits for dependents.
"It's a small victory, but we'll take it," said John Nave, executive vice president of the Kansas AFL-CIO, which lobbied for the legislation all year. "We hope this is the continuation of a blue wave that's spreading across the land."
