A landscaper is facing felony insurance fraud charges for allegedly misrepresenting symptoms of a work-related injury after he was observed walking without the assistance of a cane or crutches, the California Department of Insurance announced.
Angel Maces, 23, injured his knee while laying turf at a private residence in Duarte in 2018. CDI said it opened an investigation in 2020 after the employer’s carrier suspected fraud.
The investigation reportedly uncovered evidence that Maces misrepresented his physical limitations and the seriousness of his knee injury, the department said.
