Maryland lawmakers have introduced a measure to increase the penalty for employers that fail to secure workers’ compensation coverage, and a bill to create a presumption that post-traumatic stress disorder is compensable for certain first responders.
Senate Bill 216, by the Senate Finance Committee, would increase the maximum penalty to $25,000 from $10,000 for employers that fail to secure coverage for all employees. Penalties for uninsured employers are paid into the Uninsured Employer’s Fund.
