The U.S. Department of Labor announced a total assessment of $88 million for the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act special fund for calendar year 2022.
The special fund, also known as the second injury fund, provides benefits for workers who suffer a work-related aggravation of a preexisting condition.
The Labor Department said it needs $84 million to finance special fund operations for all regions of the country excluding Washington, D.C., and an additional $4 million to cover D.C.
