The California Department of Insurance reported that a woman who falsified documents to receive an additional $10,590 in benefits pleaded guilty to felony counts of insurance fraud and identity theft.
Marlene Cavalcanti, 40, filed a claim for injuries she said she sustained during a fall while working as an executive assistant. The Insurance Department said its investigation revealed Cavalcanti had terminated her medical treatment and started working for a new company.
She allegedly submitted multiple falsified doctor reports in an attempt to continue receiving disability payments.
