An Illinois lawmaker introduced legislation that would eliminate a statutory exemption that allows sole proprietors to operate without workers' compensation insurance.
Another lawmaker on Thursday introduced what appear to be three placeholder bills that could be amended to propose substantive changes later in the session.
Sen. Jil Tracy, R-Quincy, on Wednesday introduced SB 35, which would clarify that the statute declaring all employers are automatically covered by the state's workers' compensation laws applies to sole proprietors, general contractors and their subcontractors.
