Governor Signs Mental-Mental, PTSD Compensability Bill

Following Gov. Phil Scott's signature on Senate Bill 56 last week, Vermont law will soon be more accommodating to employees filing workers' compensation claims for work-related mental ailments.  Effective July 1, SB 56 codifies a new standard for "mental-mental claims," also known as workers' compensation claims for a mental injury or illness without a physical component.  The new standard holds that a claim arising from a work-related event or stress shall be compensable if the worker demonstrates that the event or stress was "extraordinary and unus...
