New Options Emerge for Migraine Headache Treatment

A new, $6,900-a-year drug to help prevent migraine headaches might soon be making its way into workers’ comp as part of a recent expansion of treatment options for the disabling condition. The drug, called Aimovig, received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval in May. Aimovig was found to reduce monthly migraine days among users, with some patients achieving at least a 50% reduction, according to drugmaker Novartis. Patients self-administer the drug once a month using an auto-injector made by Amgen. Novartis said in May that the list price of Aimovig would be $575 per month ...
