NIOSH Study Links Zero-Cost Claims to Large Group Health Costs

Kamin, ReporterAccepted workers' compensation claims that do not result in medical payments could be costing group health insurers at least $212 million a year, according to a study published in the latest edition of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Researchers at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health analyzed 12,020 workers' compensation claims from 16 large employers who provide group health coverage and concluded that workers' compensation claims are increasing costs for group health insurers.
