The Texas Division of Workers' Compensation has extended an emergency rule allowing telemedicine-based rehabilitation and physical therapy to be reimbursed — at least until Oct. 8.
The rule was adopted in April to promote telemedicine and social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic. It expired this week.
But it's unlikely the rule can be extended again without the normal, monthslong rulemaking process and public comment period. State law notes that emergency regulations are in effect for four months and can be extended only once, for 60 days.
